AAYNA — CUT 01

Brass Handheld Mirror with Stone Handle

A handheld mirror set in a hand-cast brass frame, with a handle turned from a single piece of green Indian marble. The mirror disc is small, the proportions held to the palm. Built as a vanity object, kept on a tray — a mirror to be picked up, not hung.

The Story

A mirror on a wall watches a room. A mirror in the hand is something else entirely — a private moment a household keeps for itself, the same way the women of the Mewar court kept their hand-mirrors on inlaid trays beside the bed. We cast this brass frame by hand in Jaipur and turned the handle from a single piece of Indian green marble, the same stone the Udaipur palaces are paved with. The disc is small, the proportions held to the palm. It is meant to live on a tray — picked up at the edge of the day, set down when the day is done.
