DEEPAK — CUT 01

Teak Table Lamp with Alabaster Shade

A table lamp with a base turned from solid teak on a hand-spun lathe, paired with a shade hand-cut from a single block of alabaster. Lit, the alabaster glows a slow honey from within. Named for the lamp itself — deepak, the steady flame of the household.

The Story

Deepak is the household flame — the small steady lamp lit at dusk in every Indian home for as long as there have been Indian homes. We turned this base from solid teak on a hand-spun lathe in Saharanpur, the woodworking town that has shaped the furniture of north India for two centuries. The shade is cut from a single block of alabaster, hollowed thin enough that the stone is just translucent. Lit at the bedside or on a low console, it glows a slow honey from within — the warmth of the diya carried into the proportions of a modern lamp. The flame is electric. The gesture is older than electricity.
