The Story

Every Indian temple wall began as a rehearsal — a sketch on paper before the artist climbed the scaffolding and committed to the plaster. We paint these previews in our Jaipur studio in natural and mineral pigment, scaled down from the wall the commissioned mural will eventually live on. River-forms and figures move across the canvas in a single flowing direction, left to right, the way the Yamuna moves past Vrindavan. Dhaara — the current, the steady stream. The canvas you hang on a wall is the quiet version. The wall itself, when the time comes, is painted directly into the plaster of the room it belongs to.
