Patinated Brass Bell Pendant

A bell-form pendant spun from a single sheet of brass and slowly patinated to a deep, even bronze. One bulb hangs inside the open mouth, its light bouncing back through the warm interior. Named for the temple bell — a single suspension, a single voice.

The Story

The temple bell announces arrival — to the deity, to the morning, to whoever walks through the door behind you. We spun this pendant in Moradabad from a single sheet of brass and patinated it slowly to a deep, even bronze, the colour of the bells at the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Banaras. The form is the bell-form — a single suspension, a single voice. One bulb hangs in the open mouth, its light bouncing back through the warm interior so the cone beneath it glows. Hung over a stairwell or a hall, it does what the temple bell does at the threshold: it tells the body it has arrived somewhere.
