KALASH — CUT 01

Statuario Vessel Basin

A vessel-form basin hand-hollowed from a single block of white statuario marble. The outer surface is left full and rounded; the inner bowl is honed smooth, the rim turned gentle to the hand. Sits on the counter like a small temple kalash.

The Story

The kalash has held water at the threshold of every Indian household for three thousand years — a vessel of arrival, of welcome, of pause. We hollowed this one by hand from a single block of statuario marble and set it tall on the counter so the bathroom returns to its original function: a place to be greeted by water. The outer surface is left full and rounded the way the temple kalash is rounded. The inner bowl is honed against the palm. It asks the morning to slow down for the time it takes to wash a face — the smallest ritual a house can keep.
