MEGH — CUT 01

Statuario Console

Cloud-veined statuario marble, named for the monsoon sky it carries in its grain. The slab is set on four slim brushed-brass legs that lift it just clear of the wall. A long entry piece, narrow enough for a passage.

The Story

An entry console announces what the house values — it is the first surface a guest sees, and the last one the household passes on the way out. The statuario was quarried in Carrara, where Michelangelo went to choose his own blocks; the grey veining drifts across the white like a monsoon sky over the Konkan coast in July. We set the slab on four slim brushed-brass legs so it lifts clear of the wall, weightless against a long passage. A bowl of keys finds it. A folded note finds it. The house begins where this stone begins.
