The Story

A long bath is one of the few rituals a modern house still protects — twenty minutes the day cannot reach. We carved this tub from a single piece of Italian travertine, the same stone the Roman baths at Caracalla were lined with eighteen centuries ago. The interior is honed to a soft matte against the body; the exterior keeps the open pores of the quarry. Months of work from one block — a small mountain hollowed by hand. The bath you take in it does not feel like a feature of the house. It feels like a small private architecture inside it.
