SHILA — CUT 02

Indian Green Marble Coffee Table

A low slab of Indian green marble, drawn from the Udaipur quarries, set across a charcoal-stained ash base. The veining runs deep in fern and forest tones, the surface honed flat to read like still water. Built to anchor a long sofa.

The Story

The coffee table is the most quietly political surface in a house — it decides whether a room is for performance or for staying. The slab came from the Udaipur quarries that have fed Mewar's palaces for four centuries; the green is the green of the Aravalli foothills after rain. Honed flat, it reads as still water across an ash base burnt black to recede beneath it. A book lands on it. A glass returns to it. The afternoon stretches because the room has finally given it somewhere to stretch into.
