VITAN — CUT 02

Mosaic Canopy Chandelier

A wider canopy form carried in tessellated mosaic — small mirrored brass plates set on a hand-formed steel armature. The pieces overlap like scales, catching the light unevenly. Cast across a high ceiling, it reads as a slow, warm sky.

The Story

A high ceiling is a gift the architect gives the house — most of us spend our lives squandering it. We made this wider canopy in Moradabad on a hand-formed steel armature, tessellated with small mirrored brass plates set so they overlap like scales on a temple roof. Each plate catches the light slightly differently, so the surface above the room is never completely still — it moves the way the gilt mirror-work in the Sheesh Mahal at Amber Fort moves under a torch. Hung in a double-height hall, it returns the ceiling to the eye. The room finally remembers it has a sky.
